WASCA has been working in partnership with food industry since 1994 to increase the range and availability of nutritious products for sale in school canteens and other food service businesses.
WASCA knows the school canteen market. In WA there are approximately 800 schools that provide a food service to their school community. Star Choice™ Registered Products assist school canteens to meet the compliance requirements of the Department of Education’s Healthy Food and Drink in Public Schools policy which is mandatory in all WA Public schools, Catholic schools and Independent schools are encouraged to comply.
The nutrient criteria used to register products is regularly reviewed and may result in new sub-categories of products being created in response to advances in food technology since the setting of the original criteria. When the Australian Dietary Guidelines are reviewed, changes are also made to the nutrient criteria as required.
Companies are invited to advertise registered products or services in the newsletter and Buyer’s Guide. Contact the office for information regarding availability of space, deadlines, required advertisement format and cost. The registration year aligns with the financial year however prorata fees can be applied.
