If you would like to host a training session at your school please contact WASCA to discuss. We require a minimum of 5 people to make any session viable to run and as a thank you the host school will receive 10 Fresh Focus of Food for Families cookbooks to use as volunteer gifts or prizes.
Please note WASCA can run all training sessions using Video Conference facilities and can easily arrange any required session at your school. Please email to ask us how.

General Meeting Join us for the WASCA General Meeting where we will be celebrating volunteers including the Canteen Supervisors that support them, as part of National Volunteer Week. The meeting will include a light supper on arrival, presentation of the Nan Marlow Award for Excellence in Volunteering (complete the nomination form here and return before Monday 10 May, 2021), a presentation on the school canteen from a volunteer’s perspective and time for networking. Financial management training Financial management is critical to the successful operation of a school’s food service. Join us to learn what’s involved in operating a financially viable canteen. This includes but is not limited to calculating menu prices, stock control, standardisation and portion control and maintaining accurate daily records. Traffic light training and menu planning and development Canteen supervisors and their employers (e.g. Parent Bodies or food service owners) must complete ‘traffic light’ training as part of compliance with the Department of Education’s Healthy Food and Drink policy. The training covers all aspects of the Healthy Food and Drink policy including it’s scope, the five areas of compliance, the responsibilities of each of the school stakeholders, how to assess a menu using the traffic light system and practical advice on how to create healthier menus. If you are a new Canteen Supervisor, a new employer of a Canteen Supervisor or in need of a refresh this training is vital and a great opportunity to connect with other stakeholders operating a school food service.
